Obituary of Richard J. VanSeggen

Richard J. VanSeggen, 81, of Walton formerly of Brentwood, NY passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, following a long illness. Richard was born on January 30, 1942 in Massapequa, NY son of the late Emil and Helen (Phillips) VanSeggen. On October 13, 1963 he married Paula Alfano in Massapequa, NY. Richard proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He was a Boat Mover for Lighthouse Boat Transportation in Lindenhurst, NY for many years. Richard enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening, every year raising 5,000 tomatoes and cucumbers. He loved antique cars and trucks and working on them. He was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club and a big Yankee fan. He was a Little League coach and Boy Scout leader too. Richard is survived by his loving family. His wife, Paula, children, Dawn VanSeggen (Greg) of Oregon; John VanSeggen (Lisa) of PA, Michael VanSeggen (Tina) of Huntington, LI. Grandchildren, Jennifer, Alison, Melissa, Joe and Johnny. Great grandchildren, Isabella and Mack. Long time pals Phil Kneer, of Bayshore, NY; and Fred Jann of Riverhead, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Arlene Moesta. A celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
