Obituary of William Watson
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Watson, 93, of Walton passed away on Friday afternoon, February 3, 2023, at home following a short illness.
Bill was born on December 15, 1929, in Readburn, NY; the son of the late Stephen and Anna (Katus) Watson. He was a graduate of Walton Central School, Class of 1948. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Bill was a self-employed stone cutter and farmer. He was an avid Yankee fan and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and raising coonhounds. He enjoyed giving hunting and fishing advice to young Steven Brown and badgering him to get a “good ole RedBone”. In his later years, Bill proudly told everyone that Steven had become a better hunter and fisherman than him and expected Steven to share his harvest with him.
Bill’s friends and Wakeman Brook neighbors will miss Bill Willie’s stories about the "action on the hill” and growing up on the farm with ‘mom’s chicken gravy on Sunday mornings’.
Bill showed great appreciation to his special friends, Steve and Paula Brown, and others that cared for him.
Bill is survived by his sister, Diane Klein, Binghamton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, significant other, Mary Elizabeth O'Neil, sisters, Margaret Barriger, Mary Radeker, brothers, Joseph Watson and Stephen Watson; and brother-in-law, Charlie Klein.
A Graveside service will be held in the spring of 2023 with Full Military Honors at the Walton Cemetery at a time and date to be announced.
Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
Memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Rd Ste 1, Oneonta, NY 13820. Or Walton EMS at 61 West St, Walton NY 13856.
