Shirley D. Huyck, surrounded by her loving family passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Born on April 12, 1925 in Hamden to Amy Baxter Dutcher and George J. Dutcher, Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Marvin “Mike” L. Huyck, MD, son Dale Peter Huyck, and siblings, Grayden R. Dutcher, Maxwell Dutcher, Lawrence Dutcher, Clifford Dutcher, and Evelyn M. Dutcher. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Ann Meeks, Walton sons, Frank M. Huyck, Mayville, and Christopher J. Huyck, MD, Saratoga Springs, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. After completing her nursing studies at King’s College, Shirley dedicated herself to her growing family. In partnership with her husband she provided steady, consistent nurturing, support, guidance, and unconditional love for all her children and children’s children. She taught life value’s of honesty, high moral values, hard work, and demonstrated by example the principals of consistency and uncompromising standards. Through all this, she was a sweet and gentle soul. She will be remembered by family and friends for her love of gardening, quilt work, sewing, crocheting, needle work, cooking, puzzles, cards, reading, and traveling. Her passing leaves a huge hole in the world of her family and loved ones. But as she taught and demonstrated her faith in her own life, we are comforted in the truth that she is at peace with her husband and all the souls waiting on the other side for her. The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and well wishes for our mother, In particular, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Kim Cook-Blincoe and Rhonda McClenon whose care for mom was professional and provided with credible love and devotion. A fellowship remembrance gathering, funeral and reception for family, friends, and community will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North Street, Walton on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11AM. A private family burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery. Contributions in the memory of Shirley D. Huyck may be made to the First United Methodist Church, The Ronald MacDonald House of the Capital District, 139 S. Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208, The Dale Peter Huyck Art Scholarship at Walton Central School, or Hospice (Helios Care, 297 River Street, Oneonta, New York 13820).
