Donald K Barnes, 61, of Walton passed away on Monday evening, April 18, 2022 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, following a short illness.. Don was born on July 16, 1960 in Walton, the son of the late Donald R and Sharon (Sherman) Barnes. On June 20, 1998 he married the former LaVonne Oliver. He worked as a Tree Trimmer for Lewis Tree Service of Rochester. He was a member of IBEW Local 1249. In his spare time he enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to all kinds of music, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and children at family gatherings. Don is survived by his loving family, his wife, LaVonne of Walton; his children, Matthew (Jessica) Barnes of Walton; Nicholas (Brandi) Barnes of Delhi; Jared Barnes of Delhi; Angela Mitchell of Bainbridge; Stephanie (John) Mitchell of FL; Thomas (Breanna) Mitchell of Albany; grandchildren, Samantha, Olivia, MacKenzie, Maddison, Haven, Alyssa, Charisma, Nick Jr., Tyler, Braylynn, Ava, Lexi, Aubrey, Jaxon, Johnny, Jade, brother, Mark Barnes of Walton, sister, Serena (Jim) Tompkins of Walton; niece, Sheena, nephews, Dustin, Ethan, Jesse, Raylan; and special friend, Andrew "Pug" Mackle. Friends and family are invited to call on Friday April 22, 2022 from 12 Noon to 1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Burial to follow at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton at 1:30 PM. It was Don’s hope that his friends and relatives who come to the visitation and the gathering at the cemetery, not to sit by sad but be happy for his friendship and celebrate his life and times. Memorial Contributions in Donald’s memory may be made to Heart of the Catskills, 46640 State Highway10, Delhi, New York 13753 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
