Doris B. Armstrong, 90, of Downsville passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 14, 2022 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, following a long illness. Doris was born on September 2, 1931 in Shinhopple, the daughter of the late Clyde and Delilah (Wormuth) Babcock. On December 30,1952 she married Sherman Armstrong, he died on December 6, 2008. Doris was employed for many years at Downsville Central School as a Cook. She was a great cook that specialized in many things but was famous for her macaroni salad. Before that she worked at the Roundup Ranch. Doris was a former member of the Downsville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, and a regular member of the coffee club at the Downsville Diner. Doris enjoyed going for rides in her car, looking at the beautiful scenery or just sightseeing. She also would go to the town landfill to find precious treasure as she would call it. She loved playing cards with her friends, and going out to eat with them, feeding the birds on her porch, and planting flowers in the special place Sherm made for her. Doris will be remembered as a kind soul who liked to collect stuff. Doris is survived by her family whom she loved very much, especially her grandchildren, Kristina Armstrong, James (Jaclyn) Armstrong; and great-grandson, Archer; daughter in law, Dawn Armstrong, nephew, Vaughn Vernold and wife Nancy. She was predeceased by her only son, James Armstrong on January 4, 2022, and her sister, Thelma Vernold on January 21, 2020. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11AM at the Colchester Community United Methodist Church, 15151 State Highway 30, Downsville. Burial will follow in Paige Cemetery.
