William Harrison Edwards, 83, of Walton passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.
Born on September 5, 1938, in Walton, he was the son of the late Howard and Hannah (Hodge) Edwards.
On May 13, 1972 he married Sheryl Brundege at the United Methodist Church in Walton.
In 1956, he graduated from Walton High School. He loved telling his nephews that he was a member of the undefeated, untied and unscored on football team of 1963. As a youth he would come from school and go fishing with his grandfather almost every day. His grandfather invented a game called “slipnochle”, a made up version of pinochle using multiple decks of cards. They spent hours playing that game.
After high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a medic until his discharge in 1963. Bill proceeded to work as a linotype operator and a pressman at the Reporter Company until his retirement in 1995, after over 30 years of employment. When not working, he was gardening. He loved to be outside in the garden.
Bill often spoke of working at his Uncle’s farm and what a great cook his Aunt Dorothy was. He loved to walk around town and chat with people he met along the way; Bill loved to talk. His sense of humor was obvious with the gag gifts he would choose for his sister-in-law at Christmas and the way he teased her.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl; his sister, Margaret E. Haley; sister-in-law, Sharon A. O’Dell (Robert); many cousins and 13 nieces and nephews as well as their children.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
Please make memorial contributions in Bill’s name to the Walton Fire Department & Emergency Squad; 61 West Street, Walton, NY 13856 or to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society; 46610 NY 10, Delhi, NY 13753.
