Obituary of CPL (Ret.) Mitchell Wright

Mitchell Wright, 69, of Walton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a brief illness. Born on May 23, 1952, in Walton, he was a son of the late Harold and Harriet (Gilbert) Wright. In 2012, Mitchell retired honorably from the New York Army National Guard (Det. 1 Company A 204 Engineer Combat Battalion) as a Corporal after 25 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter who enjoyed listening to country music. Spending time with his grandchildren is always something he cherished. Mitchell enjoyed sports such as women’s college softball, NFL and college football. You could always find him tinkering with something, even if it wasn’t broken. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Darlene Wright; his children, Tammy McEntee, Anthony Wright (Lisa) and Jennifer Parker (Michelle); his brothers, Edward Wright and Frederick Wright; and seven grandchildren, Amanda McEntee, Austin Ladd, Dalton McEntee, Isaac Wright, Monica Wright, Alexa Wright and Noah Parker. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Harold “James” Wright; a sister, Jeanette Markle; and a nephew Johnny Markle. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street in Walton.
