Obituary of Audrey Scherer

Audrey Scherer, 91, of Walton passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on September 24, 1929 in Hamden, she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Bernice (Brandt) Brazee. On July 17, 1949 she married her husband Norman R. Scherer. The two were married for 59 years before he passed in 2008. Audrey was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walton. She was very active in her community and was a member of the Walton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the blood bank in town. Audrey spent some time working at Amphenol before her employment with the Walton Reporter. Finally, she began working as a bank teller at the National Bank of Delaware County for several years until her retirement. Audrey loved annual trips to visit her son in Nags Head, North Carolina. She had a passion for bowling, playing on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday evenings with the ladies league. She loved sports especially watching the Spurs and the Yankees. Her love for sports was apparent when she attended several high school basketball and football games. It is safe to say she never missed one of her grandson’s football games. Survivors include her children, Randy Scherer (Nancy), Connie Swartwout (Zook) and Denise Nagel (John); her five grandchildren, Chad Swartwout (Rachel), Chris Scherer (Casey), Nathan Swartwout (Amanda), Megan Dail (Jonathan) and Nicole Nagel (Josh); nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she is predeceased by two brothers, Charles Brazee and Norman Brazee. A graveside service will be at Walton Cemetery on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kent Terchunian officiating.
