Obituary of Doris A. Hobbie

Doris A. Hobbie, 95, a longtime resident of Walton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Oneonta following a brief illness. Born August 31, 1925 in Walton, she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Mills Hobbie. Doris was born and raised in Walton. She worked for Hendee’s Grocery for many years then went onto to work at McLean’s for over 12 years. Doris retired after working 16 years as a Clerk at the Walton Pharmacy. When Doris was not working she was volunteering her time in the community. She was a frequent fixture at the front desk of DVH where she would answer phones and help coordinate the bake sales. Doris also made many phone calls for the yearly Enhance Delaware Valley Hospital Fund fundraiser. Her favorite hobbies were playing BINGO, slot machines at the casino, crossword puzzles and stitching. She will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her. Survivors include her nieces and nephews William “Butch” Hobbie (Sharon), Clifton Hobbie, Jr., Crystal Church, Brenda Beswick and Marty Conklin. Doris is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and one great great niece. Besides her parents, Doris is predeceased by her brothers Lloyd and Clifton Hobbie and her sisters Thelma Scofield, Theresa Conklin and Lula Davis. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 1-3 P.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Social distancing guidelines must be met, and face masks are required. Doris will be laid to rest at Walton Cemetery on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.
