Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Albert Doenges, 83, passed away at his home in West Winfield on Wednesday November 11, 2020. Richard was born on October 17, 1937 in Delhi, NY to Ida Quinn Doenges and Albert Joseph Doenges. His siblings included Sylvia Newkerk (deceased), Loretta Doenges Burkich (deceased), Stephen (Elaine) Doenges of Delhi, and Susan (Russell) Waring of South Hero, Vt. Richard married Margaret Hoag on July 4, 1970 in DeLancey, NY. They had one daughter, Amanda (Robert) Beigh of West Winfield. Richard had two grandsons, Mitchell Robert Beigh and Mason Richard Beigh. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Richard graduated from Burlington High School in Vermont. He joined the Navy after high school. He spent many years as a Supervisor for the Earl Scheib Paint Centers, traveling in the southern area of the country. Richard eventually opened a body and paint shop with his brother in Utica, NY and then moved on his own to West Winfield and later Bridgewater. He was a successful business owner and enjoyed painting cars as well as buying and selling vehicles. Richard had a strong work ethic and would prefer to be busy working than just about anything. Those who knew him could count on hearing a story or embellishment of some kind to make you laugh. He had a great sense of humor and knack for whistling while he worked. His smile and laugh would light up the room. Richard’s big personality would easily command a room and engage a crowd for hours. Richard enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, mowing the lawn, hunting, fishing, and driving. He became quite a cook once he retired. Richard attended auctions and was talented at refinishing furniture. He enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in sports and simply talking with them, telling them stories, and laughing. There will be no calling hours or funeral. There will be a graveside service held for family at the Hamden Cemetery at 10 am on Friday November 27th (weather permitting). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Richard’s name to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. To leave a message of peace and comfort for Richard’s family, please visit his online tribute at
