Leonard J. Rutherford, Sr., 99, of Walton, passed away Sunday, August 23 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City. Born October 17, 1920 in Corbett, N.Y., he was the son of Travis and Corabelle (Beadle) Rutherford. On February 4, 1942, he married Helen Drumm of Cannonsville, N.Y. in Cannonsville. Leonard was a decorated combat veteran of WWII. He was employed for 59 years by S.J. Bailey & Sons of Walton. He was a long-time member of the Walton Fire Department, the Walton VFW Post, and the Walton American Legion Post. Leonard is survived by his wife, Helen; his children, Leonard J. Rutherford Jr. (Margie), Walton, Stephen J. Rutherford (Maureen) of New Berlin, Debbie D. Davis (Craig) of Walton and Brian K. Rutherford (Debbie) of Walton; grandchildren, Trina, Diana, Angela, Donald, Donna, Kevin, Alfie, Mike, Mindy, John, Brian, Emily, Glenda, Brent, Shannon, Jim, Tia, Joel, Brandi, Andy and Ashley; one sister-in-law, Myrna Drumm of Sidney Center; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Leo Rutherford, Charlotte Dean and Ruth Clum; his children Glenda, Donald, Wendy and Sherry; grandson Douglas; and granddaughter Barbara. As per Leonard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours nor funeral services. A celebration of Leonard’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations in Leonard’s memory may be made to the Walton American Legion or VFW, 10 park Street, Walton, NY 13856.
