With heavy hearts the family of Steven Douglas Smith Jr, shares the news of his passing on August 14th 2020. He’s been freed from his pain that he suffered earth-side and his soul joins his loved ones gone before him. He was a loyal son, brother and friend.
Born July 4th 1991 into a loud and large family. He was an animal lover with a huge heart for helping people. Steven was a peaceful person by nature with a green thumb. Caring for his garden and mowing lawns with his dad brought him pride and peace. Among his many hobbies, Steven enjoyed cooking, fishing, riding his dirt bike and gaming with his family and friends. Steven was a hard worker with many jobs. His favorites were Love and Hope Animal Sanctuary in Franklin and the ARC of Otsego County.
Steven battled many health challenges in his short 29 years. Most recently overcoming stage 3 lymphoma. He was so strong and fought so hard. With tremendous love, support and faith from his family and friends he overcame many obstacles. His parents were his greatest supporters, who loved him unconditionally.
Steven was so loved, he will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will take place on Friday, August 21st 2020 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, NY.
Following calling hours, A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 25 Benton Avenue, Walton with Father Edward J. Golding, officiating. Burial will follow at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
Steven’s cats Cleo and Ruca brought him so much joy. You can honor Steven’s life by making a donation in his name to a local animal shelter of your choice.
