Obituary of Lorraine Elizabeth Thompson

Lorraine Elizabeth Thompson, 62, passed away suddenly with her family by her side on Friday, July 3, 2020. Lorraine was born on September 5, 1957 in Sidney, the daughter of the late James Philpott and Kristen and Allen Greene. On May 17, 1980, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sidney she married the love of her life, David Thompson. The two were married for 37 years before he passed in 2017. Lorraine was a loving mother to her three children. She worked at the Delaware County Infirmary in Delhi for many years in the Food Service Department. After working there, she was a longtime employee at the Walton Big-M where she loved her customers. Lorraine loved spending time with friends and family. Lorraine was such a spontaneous person and always adventuring with her friends. She adored her 2 cats, Archie and George. Lorraine loved to read books and always had one in her hand. Lorraine was reliable, loving, and caring. If you ever needed anything she was your go-to woman. Survived by her loving family, her children Melissa Layton (Marc), Cecilia Thompson (James), and David Thompson (Amy); brothers Mark Philpott and Ronald Philpott; sister Karen Woodruff (Dan) and Ericka Philpott; grandchildren Jordan Thompson, Nathaniel Stanton, Brent Layton, Morgan O’Brien, Douglas Palmer, Cameron Palmer, Caleb Thompson, Isabelle Thompson, Kiersten Beers, Damien Beers, Kaden VanFossen, Madison VanFossen, Nevaeh “Vay The Hurricane” Fitch; mother-in-law Beulah Hussey; siblings-in-law Irene Thompson, Art Thompson, Mary Marincell, Thomas Thompson, Deborah Philpott. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband, parents and father-in-law Russell Thompson. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at a private residence, 921 Pine Swamp Rd., Sidney Center, NY 13839. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Walton Cemetery with Pastor Bert More, officiating. Memorial donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, 46610 NY-10, Delhi, NY 13753 or the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E Main Street, Sidney, NY 13838.
