Obituary of Theda F. Lacey

On Friday January 31, 2020 our beloved Mother Theda F. Lacey (Baxter) was called home to join our Father John A. Lacey in the cabin he prepared for her. Born October 2, 1923 to Ray and Mae Baxter (Laraway) in Colchester, New York. Married to John A. Lacey, on March 13, 1948 they were married for 56 years. She was the only woman John ever loved all his life. Theda is survived by; daughters Pamela Homovich, Beverly Houck, Sheila Birch; sons Wallace, Warren, and Walter Lacey; sister-in-law Roberta Lacey. As well as 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild. Faithful feline companion; Mouse. There were also many more who were dear to her heart and considered her Grandma, Ma, Grandma Turd, Aunt Tater, and wombat. She is predeceased by her husband John, June 26, 2004; son Darwin at birth; brothers Harold and Ike Baxter; sister Hazel Sutherland; son-in-law Richard Homovich; daughter-in-law Linda Lacey (Graham). Her life was all about being there for her kids and helping others. She was always the first one to help someone else and the last one who wanted help from others. She loved watching birds outside her house and doing search a word puzzle books. She loved gatherings of people, conversations, her door was always open and the coffee was always on waiting for anyone. Theda loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Theda was constantly finding any excuse to get behind the wheel because she loved to be driving somewhere. Her nickname was “Road Runner”. She will always be remembered for her very spunky personality. When asked how she was she always said, “Ugly, mean, and miserable as ever.” She also always said, “Gods not ready, and the Devil don’t want me”. Memorial Contributions in Theda’s memory may be made to the Steeple Fund Colchester Community Church; CCUMC Steeple Fund, PO Box 305, Downsville, NY 13755, or Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820. A celebration of life will be held when the flowers are in bloom and the birds are singing for all to come at a date to be determined in the spring at the families’ convenience.
