Obituary of Helen Gruber

Helen Gruber, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 8, 1923 in Manhattan to Mary and Michael Halasy, the only daughter of five children.  She graduated from Seward High School in 1940. She then went to work at the U.S. Navy Yard in Brooklyn, where she was a Master Shipfitter and also did clerical work until 1946.

On January 8, 1949 she married Carl Gruber and resided in Middle Village, NY where they raised two children, Cathy and Charles.

Helen was a happy homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, bingo and bus trips with the Senior Club.  She spent many hours crocheting blankets, hats and scarves for veterans and patients in nursing homes.  But most of all, she loved to facetime with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2012, she moved to Walton to live with her daughter Cathy. Helen loved spending time outdoors, shopping and going to the movies.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Carl of 49 years in 1998, as well as her four brothers; Michael, William, Andrew and John.

Helen is survived by her daughter Cathy Stalzer of Walton; son Charles Gruber (Lana) of Morganton, GA; grandchildren Keith Stalzer (Katie), Erica Gasiorowski (Michael), Corbin Gruber, Alyson Gruber and Sierra Gruber all of Arizona; great-grandchildren Kylan Gasiorowski Hayden Gasiorowski and Kade Stalzer and caregiver and special friend Rhonda McClenon.

Burial at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY will be private at the convenience of the family.
