Obituary of Terence Lee Rogers
Terence Lee "Terry" Rogers, 71, of Walton passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at his home following a brief illness.
Terry was born on August 20, 1947 in Walton, New York to parents Harold L. and Luella (VanLoan) Rogers. Terry lived most of his life in Walton and graduated from Walton High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix during the Vietnam War. Back in Walton, he worked for many years at the Big M Grocery Store, the Delaware Register & Review, and the Walton Reporter among other businesses in town. He earned a degree in social work and worked for a time in Oneonta at a rehab half-way house.
Terry was a past member of the Walton Historical Society and also served on the Walton Cemetery Board. He loved history and genealogy and planting flowers in his garden. Above all else, he loved his family and over the past decade had been care-taking family members including his mother in her final days and his younger brother Scott. Years ago, Terry and Scott loved to walk all over Walton and out to Harby dairy barns so Scott could see the cows. In recent years, Terry would drive Scott all over the countryside to see cows, horses, and buffalo and then finish up with fries and a milk shake back in town. Since then, Terry has been visiting Scott daily helping him recover from a life-threatening illness. Scott has had a miraculous recovery probably due in no small part to the constant care and loving attention he got from Terry. Scott will miss his big brother terribly!
Terry was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Clark. He is survived by his youngest brother Scott, and his sister-in-law, Leah Rogers of Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Memorial donations in Terry's memory may be made to the Delaware County ARC, 34570 NY-10, Walton, NY 13856.
A memorial service to celebrate Terry’s life will be held at a day and time to be announced.
