Obituary of Daniel B. Burek
Syracuse NY- Daniel Brian Burek of Syracuse, and formerly of Walton, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2019 at the Syracuse Veterans Hospital after a long illness. He was 71.
Dan was born in Albany, NY, a son of the late Stanley and Daisey Adeline Ray Burek.
Dan served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 and was honorably discharged.
Dan tried his hand at different professions throughout his life. He attended auto body repair school and was employed in auto repair and later was in car sales. He moved on and tried his hand at the insurance business and then went to work in Florida on commercial fishing boats. He then obtained his Boat Captain’s License and was employed by SeCorp Marine Co. transporting supplies to the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.
Dan married his beloved wife Sherry Odell on July 31, 1983. The couple later divorced in 1988. They were later reunited by God and were remarried on January 8, 2013.
Dan was past commander of the Walton VFW, coached for the American Legion Baseball Team and loved to hunt, fish,travel, read and watch NY Yankees baseball and NY Giants football. He played trombone for the Drum and Bugle Corp at the Great Lakes Naval Training School and also played in a praise and worship band at the Praise Cathedral in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a former member of the Assembly of God Church and was a Born Again Christian.
Dan is survived by his wife Sherry (Odell) Burek, father in law Ronald Odell, former brother in law Gary Anderson, brothers in law Philip (Debbie) Odell, David (Wendy Worden) Odell and Randy (Brandy) Odell, all from Downsville, special aunt and godmother Helen Burek Krill and many extended Burek family members in the Capital District, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces.
Dan was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Marsha Anderson.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend, Street Walton, NY on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm. Immediately following funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 1 pm. Interment with full military honors will follow at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave, Walton.
