Obituary of Michael Hornbeck
Michael R. “Mike” Hornbeck, 58, of Trout Creek went Home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, September 10, 2018, at Willow Point Nursing Home In Vestal, following a long illness.
Michael was born on August 7, 1960 in The Hospital in Sidney, the son of the late Lloyd W. and Jeannine (Hayes) Hornbeck. He was a 1979 graduate of Walton Central School. Michael attended BOCES in 1978 and 1979 where he took up office practice and data processing. He went on to work many years for the Walton Big M grocery store and had the best time of his life working for Wegman's from 1990 to 1995, where he opened the Johnson City store, the Scranton and Wilksbury PA stores and then moved back to the area and worked for Oneonta Grocery for 4 years then back full circle to the Walton Big M. He enjoyed meeting people and made them feel special.
Michael loved his church and church family at the East Branch Community Church. He always put Jesus first and loved his Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of the East Branch Church where he served as Treasurer. Michael was involved in the local 4-H group, Boy Scouts. He loved doing for others. He made many lifetime friends and really enjoyed his southern Gospel Music. Michael traveled to Louisville KY where he would enjoy the National Quartet Convention and visit family and friends along the way. He loved to travel and was an avid fan of NASCAR, he enjoyed watching his favorite drivers, Dale Earnhardt, and Jeff Gordon.
Mike collected Coca Cola Memorabilia and Ceramic Villages. He was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. Mike helped many people with errands, he would give rides or help however he could. He loved his brothers and sisters and will be missed by many family and friends.
Michael is survived by his loving family, his brothers and sisters, Lloyd (Marlene) Hornbeck, Masonville; Dennis (Cindy) Hornbeck, Hopwood, PA; Patricia (Bruce) Gillin, Fairfield PA; Regina (Raymond) Hetrick, East Millsboro, PA; Gary Hornbeck, Clearwater, PA; his 4 loving cats, especially "Marmalade", that he thought the world of and were his constant companions, 2 nieces, 7 nephews, and several cousins. He can now rest in peace with his father, Lloyd who passed in 1999 and his mother who passed in 2008.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Trout Creek Community Church, Trout Creek where services will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Judy Travis, officiating. Burial will follow in Teed Cemetery, Trout Creek. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
