Obituary of Marilyn H. Russell
Marilyn H. Russell, 77, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her Savior on August 6, 2018. Born November 27, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Leonard and Doris (Morrow) Harrington, she died at her home on Russell Road in Walton, New York.
Marilyn graduated from the Johnannesburg School in Michigan and from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. She taught school for two years in Fairview, Michigan before moving to New York where she taught for many years in the Walton Central Schools.
On August 19, 1966 she married Hartley L. Russell, the brother of her college roommate. For almost fifty-two years they lived in their home on the Russell Farm where she balanced her duties as wife, mother homemaker, teacher book-keeper, neighbor and friend.
She was an active member of the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Women’s Missionary Fellowship as well as working with the Released Time Religious Education program. She was always ready to help with any church activity.
She is survived by her husband Hartley, children David (Rhonda) Russell of Dansville, New York, and Deborah (Duc) Vuong of Olympia, Washington, one brother John (Sue) Harrington of Gaylord, Michigan, and six grandchildren – Stacey Russell, Nicole Russell, Jamie Russell, Eden Vuong, Esther Vuong, and Malachi Vuong.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Mildred DeBolt, brother-in-law George DeBolt, and two nephews Michael and Marc DeBolt.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, New York. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church with Steven McCarthy officiating.
